FAQ Jyros

Filling out the forms in Jyros itself is not very time-consuming and can take between half an hour to an hour.

However, gathering the necessary data for completion may take longer. This collection time varies from user to user, depending on the size of your company. It can range from half a day to several days, depending on your familiarity with the topic and your direct access to the required data. We recommend going through each form once before starting. During this initial review, consider checking the boxes asking whether you have access to certain data, as these questions often unlock additional fields—this will help you anticipate the information that will be needed from teams and departments within the studio.

Lastly, remember that the first assessment is always the hardest! Reach out to your point of contact if you need assistance, or sign up for our training program.

If you are a publisher, Jyros is perfectly usable as it is.
If you are a digital company, the “local” form in Jyros can be used to assess the impact of your activities.

You can do either, depending on your preference! The important thing is to maintain consistency from one year to the next in order to compare your assessments. The simplest and quickest option is often to align with your fiscal periods, as this will make it easier to reuse data from your financial statements.

Yes, and if possible, every year, as these games consume resources during their usage. However, Jyros offers several features to make this task easier. You can, for example, duplicate your forms from one project or year to another and create a base that allows you to quickly modify the data.

Several options are available to get help:

  • The regional video game associations are all members of the national environmental consortium that supports Jyros. Within each of them, you will find a Jyros contact person who can assist you. The list of regional Jyros contacts is available here.
  • You can join our Discord and ask your question in our “sos-questions” space.
  • You can use our contact form located at the bottom right of the tool.

If your question concerns a CNC grant request – you are required to provide both a provisional and final assessment only for the production phase of the game related to the grant request. Released games are therefore not included, and you do not need to fill out a “Games” form.

Currently, access to Jyros is free. However, we plan to introduce paid plans in the near future to ensure the tool’s sustainability. Rest assured, the CNC module that allows you to complete an assessment for a production funding application to the FAJV will remain free.

In addition to user data (name, surname, email, company), Jyros collects a number of business activity data to perform environmental impact calculations, such as:

  • Energy consumption (electricity, gas, fuel, etc.)
  • Financial data (expenses for lodging, plane or train tickets, marketing, etc.)
  • Travel and commuting data (mileage and transportation means such as plane, train, car, public transport)
  • Composition and lifespan of IT equipment
  • Annual waste quantity
  • Game data: configuration, size, lifespan, annual sales by country and platform.

This data is stored on Jyros servers, hosted by Scaleway Dedibox, and can be deleted at any time. For more details on data usage, please refer to our Terms of Service.

You can find all the information provided by the CNC on this page, which also includes a specific FAQ for the environmental conditionality of FAJV grants.

At the top of each form, the “share” button allows you to add users to the project via their email address. These users can only contribute to the content, while “owners” can add, modify, and revoke the rights of project users.

For a “private” annual assessment, you can simply leave out the missing data and still calculate your results (except for some very specific data in the “Games” module). Ideally, you can set up processes to collect this data for the following year.

In the case of a CNC request, you can justify the absence of data in the fields provided for this purpose. However, be careful not to overuse this option!

Some fields require the completion of previous fields to become accessible. Check the tooltip and try filling out the form in order.

Yes, as much as possible. The purpose of an environmental assessment is to calculate the impact of a company across its entire value chain. Therefore, it is important to capture as many sources of emissions as possible, even those not directly under the company’s control.

Jyros does not automatically verify the consistency of the entered data. We recommend carefully checking the values you have entered (especially paying attention to the units).

The depletion of natural abiotic resources represents the impoverishment of the environment in mineral and metallic resources, meaning the materials that must be extracted, particularly for the manufacturing of IT equipment. Primary energy consumption is a way to measure a company’s dependence on energy use, whether renewable or not.

Congratulations! Here are some actions you can take:

  • Understand the different emission categories and impact factors – refer to the full results of your assessment and analyze which are the main emission sources for your company.
  • Communicate your results internally to raise awareness among stakeholders – you can also sign up for a Jyros training to better understand your assessment and the keys to effective communication.
  • Work on a long-term action plan to improve your future assessments. We are actively working on implementing a new feature to help you better compare your assessments year over year. Users will be notified when this feature is available.
  • Subscribe to the newsletter and/or join our Discord to stay informed about best practices and regulations, or simply to interact with the Jyros community (700 users by early 2025).

An environmental or carbon assessment is not meant to be compared to others, but rather to help identify the main emission sources in order to reduce its impact.
However, we fully understand the value of comparing your results to the rest of the industry. At the moment, there is limited data available on the environmental impact of the video game industry. One of Jyros’ missions is to publish anonymized statistics about the sector, based on data entered by companies. We hope to provide this kind of comparative information in the future !

When calculating environmental impact, there is no “correct answer.” The goal of an assessment is to provide an overall view of your company’s environmental impact while identifying the main emission sources. The key is to ensure that the input data is “reliable” (pay attention to units and scales) to avoid overestimating or underestimating the impacts. If you’re unsure about certain data, checking with experts within your company or doing some online research can help.

If all your employees are working remotely, you can group them under a single “local” form that covers all remote teams. Jyros will apply values based on national statistics for energy consumption of remote workers.

If your form has been validated but you wish to delete it, please send us a deletion request through the Jyros contact form. However, if the associated CNC report has been validated, we will not be able to delete it.

In this case, you can consider the freelancers as “regular” FTEs to simplify the data entry process.

In this case, the equipment in question cannot be considered assets since they are not owned by the company, and therefore, they should not be included.
However, it may seem unusual for a video game studio not to account for the impact of its IT equipment.
We recommend accounting for 50% of the impact in the company’s assessment (i.e., artificially counting a “half-PC,” “half-monitor,” etc. each time). This allows you to acknowledge the fact that equipment isn’t being multiplied, while still recognizing that these devices do have an impact.

If it’s a form or report for a CNC grant application, it can no longer be modified. For a Local form, you can duplicate it and work on the copy. For a CNC report, it cannot be duplicated, and you will need to create a new report.

Local forms and non-CNC game reports that have been “marked as completed” can be unlocked by clicking the “edit” button in the top right corner.

Les formulaires Locaux et Jeux hors demande CNC qui ont été “marqués comme complété” peuvent être dévérouillés en cliquant sur le bouton “edition” en haut à droite.

In order to calculate the impact of game usage, Jyros requires a number of mandatory parameters to be entered. Make sure you have filled in all the data in the “General Information” section, as well as the number of installations.

To create your assessment (provisional or final) that will accompany your production grant application to the FAJV, you need to click on the “Subventions CNC” button on the Jyros homepage.
We recommend referring to our user guide for more information.

Your provisional CNC assessment, as well as your final assessment at the end of the project, must include a “local” form for each year and physical site contributing to the production of the game for which the grant application is being made.
For example:

  • For a project lasting two and a half years, developed by a single team, three forms will need to be filled out (one per year).
  • For a one-year project developed jointly by two teams on different sites, two forms will need to be filled out (one per year and per site).

The Local form is the same for both applications. The distinction is made in the first question, which determines the use of the form. A Local annual form allows you to track your company’s impact year after year and implement reduction actions. Even after validation, it can still be edited.Un formulaire CNC permet de calculer l’impact de la production d’un jeu en vue d’une demande de subvention auprès du CNC.
